7 Great Tools for Marketing your Site
Published: October 19th, 2006It always helps to have one more tool in the toolbox to make a successful site, so here’s seven!
1) Make your site sell - Ken Envoy, released his bestselling internet marketing book to the public. With over 100k copies sold, Make Your Site Sell! 2002 can now be downloaded free of charge. Because the book was written in 2002, some information may be old. But the mindset is the same, so it has very valuable knowledge. This is basically an internet marketing bible.

2) Dotcomology - Dotcomology by Stone Evans is a great resource that is more up to date than the previous. There is really a ton of information in this book, covering everything from, “How to increase your traffic using expired domains” to “How to launch a viral marketing campaign”. You’ll also get a number of free webmaster tools.
Check it out here http://www.dotcomology.com/
3) Website translation - Did you know that if you translate your site into other languages that leaves your site to have 7 more versions that are “unique content”? By opening your site to other languages you will essentially have x unique content pages for as many languages you translate your site into. This leaves you open to about 60% more of the world’s internet audience.
If you are a seasoned SEO, you’ll be happy to hear that the competition in foreign language search engines is much less than in the English search engines. There are a number of tools available that will enable you to translate your website.
The first one is a Wordpress plugin called Simple Thoughts. This plugin uses automatic machine translation to translate your blog into eight languages - Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.

4) OnlyWire - Social Bookmarking is very powerful, but it’s a pain in the ass when you have to submit to one site at a time. That’s why OnlyWire was created. It allows you to submit your link to 17 social bookmarking sites. You must always submit quality content, please don’t abuse the service.

5) ROR Sitemaps - Sitemaps are very important for getting your site completely indexed by search engines. At least this is what companies like google say for indexing your site. Unfortunately many of the sitemaps today are usually created for a specific search engine, so you can see where the problem is. However, there is now an alternative. They are called ROR Sitemaps, they use XML feeds to describe your content. With a ROR sitemap, search engines can better understand your products, services, images, newsletters, articles, podcasts, and anything else that you want to describe.
You can create your own ROR sitemap at http://www.xml-sitemaps.com.
6) Web Templates - If you are a webmaster, then you understand the importance of quality web design. Good web design can mean the difference between a paying customer and a disgusted visitor.
Fortunately, there are a few websites that are providing free, quality templates. One of these can be found at Open Source Web Design, where they offer over 1,600 web designs.
Open Source Web Design is making the web a prettier place, one template at a time. To find a professional template for your own site, you can look over some of their favorite designs at http://www.oswd.org/designs/favorites/.

Ready. Set. Go.
In terms of the formatting, you're allowed to use markdown, textile, or basic html; it's truly up to you -- what strikes your fancy?
You don't have to worry about your e-mail address being sold to a russian-spam-mafia. I'm only going to use it for my own weird needs; like asking you out for a date on a lonely night of coding.
