Don’t give up, things take time.

I don’t like posting lengthy articles over the weekend, but I like having something for you visitors to read over.

I was glancing over at a couple webmaster communities and I noticed that a common question is something like “How long does it take until I have a successful website?”

Usually I’ll ask “What is sucessful to you?” The most common answer I get is “Traffic”.

Okay, so most people get frustrated and just give up because their site, forum, community, whatever, doesn’t get the huge ammount of traffic and activity they strive for, within a couple months. Yeah, it’s pretty ridiculous. Do you really think that creating a successful site takes as little effort as a couple months of dedication? You’re sadly mistaken if you believe this. That is unless you can invest thousands of dollars in advertisement. But then again, that’s paid traffic and not interest driven traffic. Paid traffic only lasts with the pool of money in reserve. Interest driven traffic is like an avalachne going down a hill, once it starts it just gets bigger and bigger - even better it costs nothing.

So basically, you want that avalanche type of traffic. But to attain it, have patience. Nothing comes with little effort. Just invest quality time into your site(s), and when ever the right time comes you’ll notice something every person feels when they invest time into something, you’ll feel a sense of satisfaction of having a site that strives with traffic.

Summary, don’t give up if you don’t see results quickly. Just keep putting your time into what you enjoy.

Got Fisch?

The comment you made about the paid traffic is very interesting.

I have found myself that links I got from other sites, create more members in my community, instead of ad campaigns that bring in lots of traffic.

In any way people think that the internet works fast - and to some point this is true - but if you want to make money in this business you need to learn from a lot of mistakes that you’ll do, and then be in position to create a successfull site. One way or another internet business is not a “get rich quick” scheme :)

Bingo, the percentage of sites that never achieve their potential due to giving up has to be extremely high. A little patience can go a long way ;)

You don't have to worry about your e-mail address being sold to a russian-spam-mafia. I'm only going to use it for my own weird needs; like asking you out for a date on a lonely night of coding.
