My Expense, and thy Nuisance

Published: April 1st, 2007

So as you all mostly know, I’ve been really craving to get a Mac Book Pro, guess what? I got it. Just in time as well, because I am about to travel up north from Los Angeles for vacation. However, while on the road I’d still like to get work done. Why you say? Well, it’s actually fun, so that’s what I’ll be doing with my spare time, haha.

When I get back, I want to buy a 30″ LCD. I’m not 100% which one to buy at this point, but I know I don’t want to buy a brand new one. I think I am going to go for the REFUB Dell 30″ for around $1k. That sounds completely reasonable, and I highly doubt I need the ‘top-of-the-line’ monitor, just because something is a little old doesn’t mean it sucked back when, right? So I am pretty certain that’s what I’ll do. I’m really excited, this is like the ultimate geek programmer setup (besides having about three 30″, but those are for… crazy geeks, right?).

Now as you read on you are asking ‘But, Daniel, what of ‘thy Nuisance?’ - Patience young grasshopper, I am getting there.

I sold my iMac on eBay for $1,600, which I am quite happy with because I was expecting no more than $1,500. Yay for bidding wars. Anyway, something pretty shitty happened when I got paid. Since I was going on my trip fairly soon, I wanted to immedietely transfer the $1,600 I got paid with (via PayPal) to my bank account. Well I do that then I go to sleep. As soon as I wake up, I usually check my e-mail. Guess what? PayPal froze my account! They said I am “highly suspicious”, what kind of bull crap is that? So the past couple days I’ve been having to run through hoop after hoop to try to prove my identify. I am at the last step on faxing the stuff in (if anyone else has been through it) and it still hasn’t been ‘accepted into the system’. So I am pretty irked off at them, I think it’s ridiculous but what ever. If this has happened to anyone, how long did it take for you to actually get your money? Because I want it now, lol.

On a Rails related note, I am going to be hitting the books hard on my trip when ever I don’t have internet. Did I mention how freaking fast this Mac Book Pro is? My Ruby on Rails development process is noticably faster, I love it!

Keep it up you Ruby Conductors, I’ll update you soon. Maybe even share some rails goodies with you that I’ve been learning over the weeks. (VeriSign hell experience. Oh guess who else is involved? PAYPAL!)

You don't have to worry about your e-mail address being sold to a russian-spam-mafia. I'm only going to use it for my own weird needs; like asking you out for a date on a lonely night of coding.
